March to the beat of my own drum.

Hello friends,

Happy belated new year. I’m disappointed its taken me this long to contribute anything but I have felt so uninspired, but it helps to have a new computer and I need to still get used to it. There is a lot coming up in the next few months so there was no better time than now to write about it all. On a personal note, since you last heard from me, I had been newly diagnosed bipolar II and was on Abilify. It was working great, however I had gained 20 pounds in four months and my psychiatrist decided to change my mood stabilizer to Latuda. I’ve had some adjustment to it but feel good on my current 80 mg regimen and haven’t gained any weight (nor lost) in two months. So there is something to be thankful for.

This month I will be attending my first Mental Health First Aid class. These classes teach you how to recognize a mental health emergency and how to react in such a case. It is an eight hour course that I hope I will learn a lot from and have the opportunity to meet new people because of it.

Coming up in April, is the NAMI walk in San Diego, California. NAMI, which stands for the National Alliance on Mental Illness is a foundation that helps provide resources for those learning about mental illness and those living with it. All money raised before and during the walk go straight to the organization.

Then in May, we celebrate the blog’s second birthday! I’m very excited for whats in store and look forward to sharing it all with you. Remember, the blog is an interactive format where you can share your story of living with or caring for someone with mental illness. We are always seeking guest posts and suggestions on topics are always welcome!

  1. Nice blog post here Friend. I can totally understand where you are coming from. I understand how frustrating this new diagnosis must be for you. However, I do want you to know something sister, God cares for you. yes, sometimes he lets us go through struggles to strengthen us, and to strengthen our relationship with him. Nevertheless, he loves us to bits, and he would do anything for us. He who gave up the life of his precious son for us, is able to do anything for us. Our father in heaven cares about your struggles, and he cares for you. He is willing to hear from you, and he is willing to hear what you have to say. I would say this, pray to the Lord about this situation, and ask for help. Do not battle this alone. Pray to God and build a solid relationship with him. You would never lose.

    God says in Isaiah 41:10
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand”.

May God’s blessings be with you, Amen. ❤ ❤
